Shaw Laureate in Life Science and Medicine won the 2021 Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award

Congratulations to Professor Peter Hegemann who won the 2021 Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award along with Professor Karl Deisseroth and Dieter Oesterhelt for the discovery of light-sensitive microbial proteins that can activate or silence individual brain cells and for their use in developing optogenetics — a revolutionary technique for neuroscience.  Professor Hegemann is the Shaw Laureate in Life Science and Medicine 2020.
